SPECIALTIES
Founding Partner
Dr. Marc Sanders founded Diagnostic Eye Center in 1998. He envisioned a practice centered on top-quality care and a premium patient experience, where quality and not volume were the emphasis. For over 25 years now, he has maintained that mantra. His goals have always been to treat each patient as he would like to be treated, to provide the most up-to-date technology, and to deliver outstanding results. He has instilled this culture of excellence into his associates and his staff. For these reasons, he has grown Diagnostic Eye Center into one of the premier ophthalmology practices in the Houston area.
“Dr. Marc Sanders did my procedures, and I am thrilled with my results. He did a wonderful job educating me on the procedure and the lenses that would be best for me. I can now see 20/15 in both eyes at up-close, intermediate and distance.”
EDUCATION
Unparalleled Training
Dr. Sanders attended Duke University where he graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Following graduation, he was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship and studied with colleagues in Munich, Germany, for one year. After that he attended Baylor College of Medicine, followed by an internship at Baylor, and then his ophthalmology residency at Ochsner and LSU in New Orleans. Next, he returned to Baylor for an Anterior Segment and Oculoplastic Fellowship.
EXPERIENCE
Extensive Experience
Dr. Sanders was an early pioneer of many of the techniques that are commonplace today. He started performing LASIK in 1998 and was among the first to eliminate the blade by incorporating the all-laser femtosecond LASIK technique in the early 2000s. He quickly added other refractive procedures such as intracollamer (ICL) implants and refractive lens exchange to his arsenal as they became available. For cataract surgery, he was one of the first surgeons to embrace the new technology of femtosecond laser in 2011. He has extensive experience with multifocal implants, such as PanOptix, and extended depth of focus implants, such as Vivity. It is not surprising that, with over 20,000 procedures under his belt, hundreds of other physicians and medical professionals have chosen him to perform their own surgery.
VOLUNTEERING
Giving Back
Dr. Sanders’ primary passion from the outset of his career has been giving back to the community. He has been active in volunteering from high school through college, medical school, and during his career. Immediately following his fellowship, he took on a part-time position at Baylor College of Medicine, teaching techniques in cataract surgery to residents training in ophthalmology. To this day, he proctors them weekly as an Assistant Professor at Baylor. He also has a joint appointment as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston College of Medicine and College of Optometry. One of the highlights of his volunteer experience was a recent mission trip to Guerrero, Mexico, where he performed over 70 cataract surgeries on patients to restore their vision. Locally he participates in Eyecare of America, which provides free eye exams to underserved patients.
In his free time, Dr. Sanders loves traveling with his family and friends. He enjoys skiing and hiking in the mountains. He likes trying new foods and restaurants in Houston, and he can be found walking his rescue dog, Scooby, in the evenings.
