Comprehensive Eye Care
Dr. Alyssa Banda has been a dedicated member of the Diagnostic Eye Center team, maintaining her commitment before, during, and after completing her doctoral training. As a therapeutic optometrist, she offers comprehensive eye exams, soft contact lens fittings, and treatment of ocular disease, including glaucoma and macular degeneration. Dr. Banda also specializes in the treatment of dry eye disease. Drawing personal experience as a severe dry eye sufferer herself, she is passionate about helping those who struggle with similar symptoms find relief and improve their quality of life.

EDUCATION
A Leader Among Scholars
Dr. Banda attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. During her time at UTSA, Dr. Banda was an active member of the Pre-Optometry Professional Society, ultimately serving as President her final year. She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Dr. Banda completed clinical externship training at the UH Heights Community Clinic in Houston, Texas, with a focus on managing diabetic retinopathy & ocular disease. Following this rotation, she trained at Memorial Hermann’s TIRR, where she gained extensive experience performing eye exams on non-verbal patients who suffered from traumatic brain injury and strokes. Lastly, she rotated at the one and only Diagnostic Eye Center, further solidifying her knowledge in the co-management of refractive surgery.
TEACHING
Educating & Mentoring
Dr. Banda works with the University of Houston College of Optometry to help train 4th year optometry students as an externship preceptor. She enjoys sharing her passion for eyecare and showing future optometrists how to provide a personalized approach for the management of dry eye disease.

Communication is Key
Growing up in the border city of El Paso, Texas, Dr. Banda values her cultural background, which has instilled in her a deep appreciation for conducting eye exams in Spanish. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she seamlessly communicates with patients to ensure comprehensive and accessible eye care. Outside of Diagnostic Eye Center, she enjoys finding new coffee shops, discovering new plant-based restaurants, and spending time with her French bulldog, Felipe.
